RIVERMEAD RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION

Minutes of Committee Meeting 19:30 2007-06-19, Tuesday

Present:

Christine Girolomini [CMG] (Chair), Peter Walsh [PW], John Turner [JHT], Chris Fraser [CF], Jean Minshull [JM], Irene Dunstan [ID] Sally Gatheral

Items Discussed: [1] Arising from correspondence

Broken lamps in the garden had been replaced by the Environment agency, but not in a pattern exactly matching the others.  CMG understands that the replacement was done in agreement with Freshwater, probably on the basis of the closest match currently available.

A bottle bank has been suggested (again) by several residents.  ID said that in the space near Natural Health might be suitable.  It was agreed that we pass the suggestion on to Freshwater.

Some dog owners are causing a nuisance by leaving bags containing faeces in the bin bays.  It is not known whether they are residents or not.  This is most unpleasant for Peter and Geoff to have to deal with and they should not have to.  Mr Mott says that does not think that anyone so inconsiderate would be responsive to requests to use a doggy-bin on site, so it was agreed to contact Rushcliffe BC suggesting a bin be placed off-site.

Health and Safety have denuded our hallways of furniture, 2 residents have asked if (especially post July 1st) we can have smoke alarms.  Possibly also something a bit decorative: artwork on the walls perhaps.  It was agreed to approach HSE and Freshwater on the question of smoke alarms.  Art on the walls is a good idea.  We will ask people for their ideas and report back.

Items Discussed: [2] Other

Car Parking continues to be a difficulty.  CMG has previously discussed the matter with Mr Mott, who seems very sympathetic but unwilling to commit actual resources such as Peter’s time and efforts.  She suggested that we could, with Freshwater’s agreement, manage it ourselves.  It was agreed that we would propose such a system to Freshwater and get price quotes for suitable tickets.

Building damage caused by the floodwall works: CF reported that he is in dispute with the Agency regarding cracks that have appeared during the works.  They are reluctant to admit responsibility and also to provide a satisfactory repair.  The root of the problem appears to be that he can find no surveyor willing to give a truly unbiased independent opinion.  If anyone has experience (good or bad) dealing with surveyors they are invited to contact him.

Plumbing: JHT mentioned that many flats still have their original water tanks and they are perilously near the end of their lives.  If not replaced within the next few months, they will leak at rust-points with risk of flooding.  It was agreed that this would be mentioned in the summer newsletter.

Party planning will be a separate (non-minuted) meeting.

Date of next meeting: Tuesday 11th September, SG to host.
